How to Add Satellites to Orbi?

When you're setting up Orbi, you may want to add a satellite at some point. If you've already set up your router and one satellite, the process of adding another satellite is simple. You can use one of the following methods:

Add an Orbi Satellite to Your Network

You can add an Orbi Satellite to your network at any time using orbi router login. You can also bring the satellite into your existing Orbi system should you want to expand it. To do so, first plug in the satellite and wait for it to connect. The light ring on the front of the device will turn green when it's ready for setup.

If you don't have a modem yet, follow these instructions for setting up your Orbi system via Ethernet cable before proceeding with this guide. If you already have an Orbi router but want to expand it and add satellites instead of buying another one separately.

Verify That the Wi-Fi LED is On

At this point, you have verified that your Orbi device has an active internet connection and that it can connect to a Wi-Fi network. If the Wi-Fi LED is on, then proceed to step 2. Otherwise, go back to step 1 and check your network settings or call NETGEAR Support if you still have issues connecting to the internet following these steps.

Now that you know your Orbi device has been successfully  in making an internet connection, proceed with adding satellites:

Plug the Orbi Satellite into a Power Source

  • First, plug the Orbi satellite into a power source.

  • Now, connect the Orbi satellite to the Orbi router using an Ethernet cable.

  • Then press the Sync button on both devices (the Sync button is under the cover).

  • The satellite will automatically add to your network and be ready for use as long as it is properly set up.

  • Go to netgear orbi login portal and make the adjustments in settings.

Press And Release the Sync Button on the Orbi Router

Press and release the Sync button on the Orbi router. The LED on the Orbi satellite will blink white, and then turn solid white (if you're using an Orbi Pro). Repeat this step with your other Orbis.

Check The Ethernet Port LED

The LED on each device glows solid white when a connection is established. If your internet cable is not plugged into the router, connect it and wait for ten seconds before continuing.

You can also use an Ethernet cable to connect the satellite to your computer. It will cause its network card to appear as another option in the drop-down list. If you experience problems with your Orbi satellite, you can reset it to factory defaults by following these steps:

  • Unplug both of the satellites from their power sources and wait 10 seconds before plugging them back in again; then reconnect all cables.

  • Wait for 5 minutes or until both satellites glow with LEDs (depending on their model).

LED Behaviour During Setup and Troubleshooting

When you first start the Orbi satellites, you'll see one set of lights blinking. The number of blinks indicates which stage the satellite is in:

  • One blink = Initialising firmware

  • Two blinks = Initialising satellite connection to router

  • Three blinks = Connecting to Wi-Fi network

Orbi Satellite Connecting Methods

You can add an Orbi satellite to your network at any time using one of these methods.

  • Extend Wi-Fi range. Adding a satellite extends your Wi-Fi coverage, even if you have an Orbi router and satellite in place.

  • Boost wireless performance. When you add an additional satellite to your existing Orbi system, you'll receive an increase in performance and reliability for all active devices throughout your home or office without having to rewire anything.

  • Improve wireless coverage in hard-to-reach places like basements and attics that are far from the main router's location. This is especially ideal for homes with dense construction materials such concrete block walls. This is because they interfere with radio waves from traditional routers but not from satellites.

To Conclude

With the new Orbi satellite, you can add more Wi-Fi coverage to your home without running cables or needing access to an electrical outlet. Just plug in the satellite and wait for it to establish communication with your Orbi router.
